The new offering, dubbed Hulu Plus, will initially be available only to a limited number of invited subscribers, who can access current and past seasons of popular shows from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC -- the three media companies that own the service -- including "Glee," "The Office" and "30 Rock" among others.

"We have great conviction that consumers should be able to watch the TV shows they'd like to watch, whenever they want to watch them, wherever they want to watch them," said Jason Kilar, Hulu's chief executive.

The paid service will also be made available on consumers' portable devices, such as Apple's iPhone and iPad, home televisions through Blu-ray players and video game consoles like Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 systems.

The company said Hulu Plus would be opened to the general public in the coming months. Programming on Hulu.com, an advertising-supported site, will still be free to watch.
